GETTING STARTED

Your first TechStreamTV session

TechStreamTV has two main parts: the Windows Media Server organizes and serves your library, while the Web UI or a compatible client lets you browse and play it.

What you need

  • A Windows 11 x64 computer for TechStreamTV Media Server.
  • Media folders or an M3U/M3U8 playlist the server can read.
  • A local network connection between the server and playback device.
  • A supported browser or compatible TechStreamTV client.

1. Install the server

Go to TechStream.tv Downloads and download TechStreamTV Media Server for Windows 11 x64. Extract the complete ZIP to a writable folder and run TechStream.exe. Do not run the executable from inside the ZIP.

Read the detailed server installation guide.

2. Add your media

Use the server application to choose a media folder, import an M3U or M3U8 playlist, or open the Library Editor to build your library. TechStreamTV currently recognizes MP4, MKV, AVI, MOV, WMV, WebM, M4V, FLV, MPG, MPEG, 3GP, and TS containers.

3. Review access settings

The default server port is 5050. You can give the server a name, enable optional UDP discovery, and turn on local authentication.

If authentication is enabled and no users exist, TechStreamTV creates a local account with a generated password and displays it in the server application.

4. Start the server

Start the server from the desktop application. Windows Firewall may ask whether TechStreamTV can accept network connections. Allow it on trusted private networks.

5. Open the Web UI

On the server computer, open http://127.0.0.1:5050/. On another device, use the server's LAN address:

http://YOUR-LAN-IP:5050/

If authentication is enabled, sign in before opening the library.

6. Connect a client

Compatible clients can discover TechStreamTV Media Servers over UDP 5051 or connect using a manually entered server address.

TechStreamTV Player for Windows is documented separately. See Downloads for Android / Fire OS availability.

Clients check compatibility through /api/compatibility before loading the shared Web UI.

7. Start watching

Browse your library, choose a title, and press play. TechStreamTV streams the original media file, so playback support depends on the codecs supported by the browser or native LibVLC client.

Supported interfaces report playback progress, resume position, and watched state back to the Media Server.

LAN-first: TechStreamTV is designed primarily for devices on your local network, though remote access can also be configured separately.
