GETTING STARTED

Install TechStreamTV Media Server

TechStreamTV Media Server 5.1.x supports Windows 11 x64 and is distributed as a portable, self-contained ZIP.

Download

Go to TechStream.tv Downloads and select Download on the TechStreamTV Media Server card. The Downloads page shows the currently available version and release details.

Choose an installation folder

Extract the full ZIP to a normal folder, such as a dedicated applications or media-server directory. Avoid running it from a temporary download location.

TechStreamTV stores its configuration and database files alongside the application, so make sure the Windows account running the server can write to that folder.

Keep the folder structure together

The server expects web/index.html and web/version.json inside its application folder. It also creates or uses:

  • techstream.config.json for server settings.
  • data/techstream.db for the library, users, settings, and playback state.
  • data/backups for database backups.
  • library as the default library location when no custom path is configured.

First launch

Run TechStream.exe. If Windows SmartScreen or security software shows a warning, make sure the ZIP came from TechStream.tv Downloads. Do not ignore warnings for files downloaded from unofficial sources.

Firewall prompt

When Windows asks whether TechStreamTV can accept network traffic, allow it on trusted private networks. The default HTTP port is 5050, and optional discovery uses UDP 5051.

Updating

  1. Stop TechStreamTV Media Server.
  2. Back up the installation, especially data, library, and any custom web folder.
  3. Read the release notes for any update-specific instructions.
  4. Replace the application files while keeping the data and media locations required by that release.
  5. Start the new version and check your library before removing the backup.
Supported platform: Windows 11 x64.
