TechStreamTV Web UI

TechStreamTV Web UI is the browser interface included with TechStreamTV Media Server. It handles library browsing, search, playback, and TV-friendly navigation.

How it is distributed

The Web UI is included in the Media Server's web folder and is not currently offered as a separate download. It has its own version so the server and native clients can check compatibility with it.

Open the interface

Visit http://SERVER-LAN-IP:5050/, replacing the address and port if you changed them. If authentication is enabled, sign in before opening protected library and playback features.

Browse the library

The library page shows playlist cards, poster art, descriptions, keyword filters, media counts, and playback progress. Open a playlist to browse its items.

Series and collections can use group names and ordering values for season-style browsing.

Search

Search works across titles, categories, and keywords in your TechStreamTV library. It searches the library stored on your server, not the internet.

Playback

For local media, the browser uses its built-in video support and streams the file from the Media Server using byte-range requests.

For remote HLS streams, the Web UI can use hls.js when the browser does not provide enough native HLS support. TechStreamTV does not automatically transcode every unsupported codec.

Resume and watched state

The Web UI shows resume positions, watched indicators, and playlist progress using playback data stored by the Media Server.

As you watch, it reports playback progress and completion back to the server. Live HLS streams do not use normal on-demand resume behavior.

Subtitles

When the Media Server detects an SRT subtitle for a supported item, the Web UI can make it available as browser captions. Subtitle rendering and media codec support vary by browser and platform.

TV and D-pad navigation

Web UI 1.2.0 supports directional navigation, Enter/OK activation, Back handling, automatic scrolling to focused items, remembered focus positions, and visible focus indicators.

Mouse, keyboard, and touch controls remain supported as well.

Browser requirements

Web UI 1.2.0 supports Chrome 90+, Firefox 90+, Edge 90+, and Safari 15+.

Internet-loaded libraries: the current Web UI loads Bootstrap 5.3.3 and hls.js from jsDelivr. If hls.js is not already cached, HLS playback may not work while the browser is offline. Local non-HLS playback can still work.
