Web UI themes and local customization
A theme is an alternate Web UI served from the Media Server's
local web folder. It changes the browser interface
without changing your media library.
Official and custom Web UIs
The default TechStreamTV Web UI is maintained by AbleStudio and included with the Media Server. You can replace it in your own installation with a custom Web UI, as long as that UI remains compatible with the Media Server APIs and features it uses.
Custom Web UIs are not official TechStreamTV releases and are not maintained or guaranteed to work by AbleStudio.
Before local customization
- Make sure the custom Web UI is compatible with your Media Server version.
-
Stop the server before changing files in the
webfolder. -
Back up the official
webfolder. - Keep that backup so you can restore the default Web UI if needed.
Folder structure
The Media Server looks for its Web UI in this location:
TechStreamTV application folder/ ├─ TechStream.exe ├─ data/ └─ web/ ├─ index.html ├─ version.json └─ theme assets…
Avoid adding an extra folder such as
web/theme-name/index.html.
index.html needs to be directly inside web.
Replace the local Web UI
- Close TechStreamTV Media Server.
-
Rename
webto something likeweb-default-backup. -
Place the custom Web UI's complete
webfolder besideTechStream.exe. - Start the server.
- Open the server, sign in if required, and test the parts of the custom Web UI you plan to use.
Compatibility information
The server reads web/version.json and makes the Web UI
version and supported Android and Windows bridge protocol ranges
available through /api/compatibility.
If version.json is missing or invalid, compatibility
information will not be available to connected clients.
Restore the default UI
- Stop the server.
-
Remove or rename the custom
webfolder. -
Restore your backup as
web, or copy thewebfolder from the same official server release. - Restart the server and hard-refresh the browser.
web/index.html.
See the
TechStreamTV Software License
for the current terms.
Keep custom files separate from the default Web UI when possible,
since mixed versions can be harder to restore and may leave old scripts behind.
