GUIDES

Local network access

TechStreamTV serves the Web UI, API, artwork, subtitles, playlists, and media over HTTP from your Media Server.

Default ports

TCP 5050

Server traffic

Used for the Web UI, login, API requests, media streams, thumbnails, subtitles, and generated M3U playlists. The server port can be changed.

UDP 5051

Optional discovery

Clients broadcast TECHSTREAM_DISCOVER. A server with discovery enabled replies with its name, HTTP port, and version.

Find the server address

Use the Windows server's local IP address, such as 192.168.1.20, or another address assigned by your router. A typical Web UI address looks like this:

http://192.168.1.20:5050/

Replace the example IP with the address of your own server.

Automatic discovery

Enable broadcast discovery in TechStreamTV Media Server before starting it. The client and server normally need to be on the same local broadcast network.

Guest Wi-Fi, client isolation, VLANs, VPN software, and some mesh network configurations can block UDP discovery.

Manual addresses

TechStreamTV Player for Windows and the Android client can also connect using a manually entered server address. Enter the address and port the device can actually reach.

TechStreamTV Media Server currently serves connections over HTTP and does not provide native HTTPS/TLS.

Windows Firewall

Allow TechStreamTV on trusted private networks. If you create firewall rules manually, allow inbound TCP on the configured server port and inbound UDP 5051 only if you use discovery.

Avoid opening broad public-network firewall rules unless you specifically understand and need them.

Generated playlist endpoint

Each library playlist can be opened by compatible players at:

http://SERVER-LAN-IP:5050/playlist/PLAYLIST-ID.m3u

When authentication is enabled, protected endpoints require a valid TechStream session or compatible authorization.

Internet and remote access

Remote access is supported, but you configure the network.

TechStreamTV is LAN-first, but you can make your Media Server reachable from outside your local network by configuring your router, firewall, and network appropriately.

TechStreamTV does not automatically configure port forwarding or other router settings for you.

TechStreamTV Media Server currently uses HTTP and does not provide native HTTPS/TLS encryption. Authentication is available, but remote connections are not protected by HTTPS/TLS, so use appropriate care when exposing a server to the internet.

Optional internet traffic

Some optional features need internet access, including TMDB metadata, GitHub update checks, remote posters, remote HLS/IPTV sources, and Web UI libraries loaded from a CDN.

Local media playback does not require those services, although some browser features may depend on resources already available in the browser cache.
