TechStreamTV 5.4.0 Release
TechStreamTV 5.4.0 is now available.
This release introduces an entirely new TechStreamTV Web UI and significantly expands the media platform behind it with richer metadata, improved artwork support, enhanced library browsing, and expanded Server capabilities for connected clients.
The new Web UI replaces the previous library-style experience with a modern, cinematic interface designed for desktop, mobile, television, keyboard, touch, D-pad navigation, and compatible TechStreamTV native clients.
Highlights include:
- Completely redesigned TechStreamTV Web UI
- Cinematic Home experience with featured media

- Explore, Movies, TV, and Search
- Rich Movie and TV details
- Posters, backdrops, and content logos

- Local Web UI playlists
- Responsive desktop, mobile, tablet, and television layouts
- Improved keyboard and D-pad navigation
TechStreamTV 5.4.0 also expands the metadata stored by the Server.
Movie and TV libraries can now include richer information such as original titles, structured genres, regional content ratings, provider ratings, cast and crew information, character names, production information, and expanded artwork.
Artwork support has also been significantly expanded.
TechStreamTV can now manage and serve posters, cinematic backdrops, content logos, and cast profile images directly through the Server, allowing supported clients to build richer interfaces without requiring access to files on the Server computer.
Library browsing has been improved with enhanced Server-side search, Movie and TV filtering, genre filtering, sorting, and support for larger libraries.
Available sorting includes Name, Recently Added, Release Date, Most Watched, and Recently Watched.
The persistent SQLite media library has been upgraded to schema version 8 to support the expanded metadata, artwork, genres, people, and media relationships introduced in this release.
Existing TechStreamTV 5.x libraries are upgraded automatically using the existing migration and backup system.
TechStreamTV 5.4.0 also improves media-source identification so ordinary remote video sources are no longer incorrectly treated as HLS streams, while M3U8 and explicitly identified HLS sources continue to receive appropriate playback handling.
Playback history remains authoritative on the TechStreamTV Server, allowing supported devices to share resume position, watched status, completion, play count, and playback history.
TMDB remains optional.
TechStreamTV continues to support local media management, grouping, playback, and LAN streaming without requiring TMDB, cloud media hosting, or an external database server.
TechStreamTV Server 5.4.0 is available now for Windows 11 (64-bit).
