TechStreamTV 5.2.0 Release
TechStreamTV v5.2.0 has been released, delivering a major expansion to media metadata across the Server and bundled Web UI.
This release expands TMDB metadata support, adds configurable regional content ratings, upgrades the persistent library, extends served playlist metadata, and brings richer Movie and TV information directly into the Web UI.
EXPANDED MEDIA METADATA
TechStreamTV 5.2.0 significantly expands the metadata available for Movies and TV content.
New user-visible metadata includes:
• Tagline
• Release date
• Runtime
• Regional content rating
• Cast
• Director
• Writer(s)
• Studio / production company
Existing poster, description, and genres support remain unchanged.
The expanded metadata is integrated into the existing TechStreamTV library rather than being maintained as a separate metadata system.
CAST AND CREW INFORMATION
TechStreamTV can now retain and display richer cast and crew information from TMDB.
Cast information includes the first ten cast members returned by TMDB in source order, along with character information where available.
Director, writer, and studio information is also available for display within supported library views.
This gives Movie and TV entries more useful context without turning the interface into an oversized metadata database.
REGIONAL CONTENT RATINGS
TechStreamTV 5.2.0 introduces configurable regional content ratings.
A new Rating Region setting allows users to select System Default or choose from supported TMDB countries and regions.
When System Default is selected, TechStreamTV dynamically uses the Windows regional setting.
If a rating is not available for the selected region, TechStreamTV leaves the field empty rather than substituting a certification from another country.
The selected Rating Region is saved with the Server configuration.
LIBRARY EDITOR METADATA EXPANSION
The existing Library Editor has been expanded to support the new visible metadata fields.
Available metadata now includes:
• Genres
• Description
• Poster
• Tagline
• Release Date
• Runtime
• Rating
• Cast
• Director
• Writer(s)
• Studio
This extends the current Library Editor while development continues on the next-generation TechStreamTV Library experience.
SQLITE SCHEMA 7
TechStreamTV's persistent SQLite library has been upgraded to schema version 7.
The new schema expands persistent metadata storage while preserving existing library data.
Existing libraries are migrated automatically using TechStreamTV's established migration process.
Pre-migration database backup protection remains in place.
EXPANDED SERVED M3U METADATA
TechStreamTV's HTTP-served M3U playlists now include additional metadata for both playlists and individual media entries.
New served metadata includes:
• Tagline
• Release Date
• Runtime
• Rating
• Cast
• Director
• Writer(s)
• Studio
Existing poster, keywords, and description metadata remains compatible.
Empty metadata is omitted rather than being replaced with placeholder values.
Local M3U import, export, and backup behavior remains unchanged.
WEB UI 1.3.0
TechStreamTV 5.2.0 includes Web UI 1.3.0.
This update brings the expanded Server metadata directly into playlist and media details.
Playlist information can now display release date, runtime, rating, cast, director, writers, studio, and tagline alongside the existing poster, genres, and description.
Release date, rating, and runtime are presented compactly where appropriate.
For example:
Jan 2, 2026 • PG-13 • 1h 40m
Runtime values are automatically formatted into readable hour and minute values.
RICHER PLAYLIST DETAILS
Playlist detail screens now make greater use of the metadata stored by the Server.
Cast, director, writers, studio, tagline, release date, runtime, and regional rating can now appear directly alongside existing playlist information.
The result is a richer Movie and TV browsing experience without changing the existing navigation model.
Existing library rows, categories, search, posters, descriptions, playback controls, and playback-state behavior remain unchanged.
MEDIA-LEVEL METADATA
Web UI 1.3.0 also supports metadata associated with individual media entries.
Media-specific metadata is matched to the corresponding media item and displayed only for that entry.
Media items do not automatically inherit playlist metadata.
This preserves the existing distinction between playlist-level and file-level information while allowing individual media entries to carry their own details.
OPTIONAL METADATA
All expanded metadata remains optional.
If a value is unavailable or empty, TechStreamTV simply does not display it.
The Web UI does not add replacement values such as Unknown, N/A, Not Available, or Not Rated.
This allows incomplete, manually-created, and older libraries to remain clean while still benefiting from richer metadata when it is available.
